Welcome to the 2010 Big Canoe Tour of Homes website. We are already well into the planning process and are excited about what has become a springtime tradition here in the North Georgia mountains.

The tour is scheduled for Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1. In its 22nd year, the 2010 weekend promises to be another event filled with fun, relaxation, shopping and a beautiful variety of homes. It’s a time when hundreds of residents and visitors come together to enjoy some beautiful scenery and share ideas about decorating, artwork and savor some delicious food and baked goods.

Our Collector’s Corner and Book Nook can’t be beat for finding bargains for your home and library. Best of all, proceeds from the Tour of Homes benefit local charities in Dawson and Pickens Counties, making lives a little bit easier for those who need it most.

When the first tour chairs Becky McDaniel and Dorothy de Albuquerque decided to open their own homes along with three others on May 27, 1989, one wonders if they ever imagined what would ultimately evolve from their initial plan.

In addition to raising over $870,000 to date for local charities in North Georgia, the Big Canoe Tour of Homes has inspired unique decorating ideas, tempting recipes, breathtaking art, and lasting friendships.

And so, with a nod of appreciation to them, this year's tour theme is "Simply Inspired"--a fitting homage to Becky and Dorothy and all of the people who have made the Tour of Homes a Big Canoe tradition.

We will be posting updates frequently, but for now please enjoy scrolling through articles and pictures with plans for this year's tour, as well as interesting notes about tours past.  Please click here for a list of the 2010 committees and members of the Steering Committee.
